Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo Informs

If we have not met, my name is Dr. Yadira Caraveo. I represent the new 8th Congressional District, which spans from Commerce City all the way up to Greeley. It is the honor of my lifetime to serve as the first Latina Member of Congress in Colorado history.

Before I was a Member of Congress, I was a doctor. My parents immigrated from Chihuahua and my dad worked very hard in construction, which allowed me to go to school and become a pediatrician. But working as a doctor in clinic, I saw families struggling with problems I couldn’t solve as a doctor – rising costs in Colorado, undependable health insurance, and an uncertain future for our children. I saw that my patients didn’t have the same opportunity I had to live their version of the American Dream.

With so many challenges for Colorado families, it can be difficult to feel hopeful about the future. But if I have learned one lesson in my time serving our community, it is that when we set aside our differences and work together, there is no shortage of what we can accomplish. Guided by that understanding, I have spent the last eight months working in Washington to deliver solutions to benefit our community. I want to share how my office is moving our District forward, and how we can help you.

How Can I Help?

My primary focus is collaborating with members from both parties to pass solutions that address real issues in our community. In the first half of this year, I took decisive action on the drug crisis that has devastated so many families by introducing my bipartisan TRANQ Research Act, which passed the House with unanimous support. I am also supporting hardworking families who are struggling to make ends meet. I introduced the Food Access and Stability Act, which will permanently expand Special Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for vulnerable groups.

I learned this work ethic from my dad, who worked hard in construction to support our family. Watching him rise early each morning to go to work taught me the same appreciation for all hardworking people who sacrifice for our community. That includes the sacrifices our farmers, ranchers, and workers make to put food on our tables.

That’s why I have introduced many bipartisan bills aimed at delivering essential services like broadband internet, mental health treatment, and childcare to rural workers and their families. And I will continue soliciting input from our community as Congress works on passing the 2023 Farm Bill, which will support farmers, ranchers, and workers, and provide nutrition assistance for families.

As I am working hard to pass bipartisan legislation to help our families, my office is always here to help constituents. My staff can interface on your behalf with federal agencies to help with immigration, visa, and passport issues, tax issues, Social Security and Medicare benefits, veterans’ benefits, and more.

These are just a few of the ways my staff can help you and your family. I am honored to represent our community in Congress, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
