The immigrant community and its allies took to the streets of downtown Denver in masse on Saturday, February 8, to protest recent ICE raids and demand respect for migrants’ rights. Thousands of people marched west along Colfax St. before returning via 14th Street to the Colorado State Capitol, where a central event took place featuring speeches from community leaders and activists.

Protesters carried signs with messages such as “No one is illegal on stolen land,” “Immigrants make America great,” and “Don’t bite the hands that feed you.” They also chanted slogans like “¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!” (“The people united will never be defeated!”) and “¡Ningún ser humano es ilegal!” (“No human being is illegal!”) as they moved through downtown streets.

Jennifer Piper, a representative of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), emphasized the significance of this demonstration: “This week’s raids were a direct attack on our families and our community. Today, we are showing that in Colorado, we stand united, and we will not allow intimidation”.

Reminding Immigrants of Their Rights Amid Raids

In addition to AFSC, other organizations such as the Colorado People’s Alliance (COPA), the Colorado Rapid Response Network, and the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC) participated in the march. Organizers highlighted the importance of community resistance and reminded immigrants of their rights during immigration enforcement operations.

The event concluded with a call to action, urging attendees to stay informed and organized to confront deportation policies and defend the dignity of all immigrant families in Colorado.
