Community leaders and human rights defenders from across Colorado are coming together to march through downtown Denver. “We want to send a message to the federal congress and to the Biden administration. We demand that they fulfill the promise to create a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants. We also want all elected leaders to work for justice for all immigrants and refugees in the nation,” said Jordan Garcia, representative of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC).
Garcia continued, “We call on our Colorado senators and representatives to show leadership and perseverance, supporting undocumented Coloradans and our community to ensure that Congress passes a path to citizenship this year. Colorado state voters and legislators have transformed our state into one of the most inclusive in the country. We ask that you continue to fight for that vision in DC.”
Lisa Duran, Executive Director of the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC) provides more details about the march. “We will march for the citizenship of 11 million undocumented immigrants; DACA recipients; TPS holders; agricultural workers; LGBTQ people locked up in detention centers; refugees fleeing war and disasters; families without access to medical care and workers subjected to inhumane working conditions. Citizenship must be for everyone,” she affirmed.
Rally in the Tivoli Quad
The march will begin at Viking Park and continue down Speer Avenue until it reaches the Tivol Quad at the Auraria Campus. That will be a one-mile ride. On the Auraria campus, a rally will take place featuring state legislators, including Representative Naquetta Ricks. It will also feature artistic performances from Colorado’s diverse immigrant communities. A Denver Health mobile clinic will be installed in the Tivoli Quad offering free vaccines against COVID-19.
