Vernor Jones is running again to be elected to the Denver Public School (DPS) board. Jones is a candidate for the entire district, or “at large.” “We must make sure that we are doing everything possible to ensure that teachers, students, staff, and families are safe. We continue to deal with the pandemic during this return to in-person classes and we have seen an increase in the number of infected minors who are not yet vaccinated,” he said.

The candidate is also concerned with the school consolidation process. Jones noted, “I’m glad the superintendent took a break. But, this does not mean that the process will not continue. Therefore, we must talk with the community about plans to support students and their families. The community must understand what the data means and in this way the community would be part of the decision.”

Experience and Conciliatory Attitude

Jones would like to make his expertise available to the public. He has served as a teacher, school principal, and executive overseeing the performance of dozens of schools. He knows perfectly well how public, charter, and innovation schools work. Jones is also the father of five school-aged children and an education activist. “I like to listen to both sides of a problem so that I am able to make the best decisions for the benefit of the students,” Jones concluded.
