The free two-day conference made for parents, childcare providers, and families with children with disabilities where they will be able to share their knowledge, learn together, and grow in community to support the growth and well-being of their children. They will be able to participate in workshops and presentations designed to broaden their knowledge, connection, and collective wisdom.

The Latino Parent Conference “La Cuspide” will offer a variety of topics, only in Spanish, designed for parents, childcare providers, and families of children with disabilities. This conference is an excellent opportunity for all Spanish-speaking members of our community who are parents, childcare providers, and/or families with children who have disabilities.

Their goal is to provide parents and providers with an opportunity to learn, explore, and grow within the community as each workshop lasts a maximum of 1 hour and 15 minutes where parents, childcare providers and families with disabled children can share their experiences and support each other as a community.

Disability Awareness

Through disability awareness, the misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding those with disabilities can be brought to the forefront. When these are gone, attitudes and behaviors become more positive and impactful and are able to create a better understanding. Many times, parents of children with disabilities face situations with little or no support to solve them. In schools, the health system, etc., they face challenges that in most cases are new experiences in which may be affected.

Disability awareness is the practice of knowing, acknowledging, and accepting individuals’ experiences as they relate to disability. Public awareness is important to increase enthusiasm and support, stimulate self-mobilization and action, and mobilize local knowledge and resources especially when it comes to raising political awareness because policy makers and politicians are key actors in the policy process of adaptation.

Through this conference, parents who feel alone or lost, will have a place where they will not only be heard and seen but supported as well. The Colorado State Parenting Coalition seeks to help those who are looking for resources or knowledge to help overcome challenges.
