The Vacancies Committee in the Colorado Legislative Assembly finally decided to designate Lorena Garcia as the new representative for District 35. Garcia will occupy the chair that Adrienne Benavidez had been occupying since 2017. This representative was elected for her fourth and last legislative period last November 2022. However, Benavidez submitted her resignation on December 26, for which the process was activated to designate who would occupy her vacancy in the new legislative period.

Garcia will participate in the orientation for new Colorado legislators on Thursday, January 5, and she will be sworn in as a representative for District 35 on January 12. Garcia’s family on her father’s side has deep roots in the state of Colorado with seven generations in the state. Meanwhile, her mother’s family is only one generation old in Colorado. In her resume, Garcia says that “my family’s background reflects the distinctive diversity of Colorado and the entire country.”
