Mayra Alejandra will perform on June 14 at Global Fest 2025 in Aurora with a show that promises to excite fans of Latin music. Her show, titled Amor Prohibido: A Tribute to Selena, is a carefully crafted production that revives the energy, voice, and charisma of the legendary Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, combining live vocals, iconic costumes, and a dance troupe that brings each song to life with power and color.
The Aurora performance will serve as a prelude to a major milestone for Mayra Alejandra, who will debut the same show six days later in a Las Vegas residency. “When I stepped on stage for the first time as Selena, I felt something very deep… something that connected me to her, to her story. I am excited and grateful to bring her legacy to a city like Las Vegas, where so many stars shine,” she said emotionally.
Mayra Alejandra is a Bolivian-Argentinian performer who has built her career between South America and the United States. Her musical and theatrical training allowed her to create a show that not only imitates but honors the essence of Selena. “I didn’t want to do an imitation show, but an interpretation. I studied her voice, her movements, her humility… I wanted to pay tribute to a woman who marked generations,” she explains. Choosing Selena was no coincidence. Mayra Alejandra has admired her since childhood.
Parallel Stories
As she grew, the artist realized that her own story of effort and talent closely resembled Selena’s. “For me, Selena represents a powerful inspiration,” she shared. In addition to her Selena tribute, Mayra also performs another show that has been praised by critics: Back to Black: The Soul of Amy, a tribute to British singer Amy Winehouse. “Both artists left us too soon and had an impressive vocal strength. But they also shared a vulnerability that touched people,” she reflects.
Amor Prohibido: A Tribute to Selena will be presented free of charge at Global Fest 2025, a celebration of the cultural diversity that characterizes Aurora, with Mayra Alejandra as one of its star performers this year. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy a world-class show just before her star rises on the Las Vegas stage.
