Xochitl Gaytan came to southwest Denver as a very young girl. As resident in this area, she became an adult and has raised her family. “I am competing to get to represent District 2, my neighborhood, on the DPS board of directors. I want to be a strong voice that represents this sector and that expresses the needs of the Mexican, Hispanic, and all communities,” indicated the candidate who graduated from Lincoln High School.

“I am going to bring my life experience to DPS as an undocumented child of Mexican parents. I am a mother with a son who graduated from DPS and another who is a current student. I was a student of the DPS myself. I am going to provide the DPS with a comprehensive perspective due to the different roles that I fulfill,” she asserted. Gaytan went on to college at Metro State University where she obtained a degree in business administration. She worked in the private sector for several years and then established her own real estate business.

Distribute a Billion Dollars

Her extensive experience in the administrative area allows her to identify the challenges of the DPS. “The most urgent thing is the budget. The DPS has more than a billion dollars. About $750 million is supposed to be used for schools, teachers, and student resources. What I find is that the money is not being used that way. Schools must receive adequate funding to provide an adequate learning environment. The funds also must be distributed equitably,” concluded Gaytan.
