The open enrollment period for Medicare Advantage, which includes Dual Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs), is nearing its end and will close on December 7. This period is crucial for over 150,000 Colorado residents who combine Medicare and Medicaid and could benefit from the new features of the program for 2025.

What Are D-SNP Plans?

D-SNP plans are designed for individuals over 65 and those with specific health conditions or limited incomes. Marian Cabanillas, from UnitedHealthcare Community & State, highlighted that these plans offer free preventive benefits such as annual physical exams, mammograms, colonoscopies, and lab tests.

“Delaying medical care can put people at risk. Diagnosing and treating health problems early significantly improves outcomes,” said Cabanillas. Additionally, these plans may include extra benefits like assistance with utility bills and healthy food, reducing socioeconomic barriers and contributing to the overall well-being of enrollees.

A Focus on Equity and Accessibility

The federal government, under the Biden administration, has implemented a health equity index within Medicare’s star rating program. This index allows consumers to compare plans and enhances access for communities of color, who face higher rates of preventable hospitalizations.

How to Enroll?

Interested individuals can visit getdual.com to explore options and learn more. It is also recommended to consult with certified advisors who can guide beneficiaries in selecting the best plan.

With the deadline approaching quickly, now is the perfect time to evaluate health needs and ensure the chosen plan for 2025 provides the best combination of benefits and costs.

New Cost Limits and Adjustments for 2025

According to Milton Román, a Medicare expert, changes for the upcoming year include a $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket medical expenses, a significant improvement compared to the $7,000 limit in 2024. However, this adjustment comes with reductions in other benefits.

“It is essential that all beneficiaries review the available plans for 2025, as many have changed. Spreading the word among family and friends is critical to ensure more people are informed and can make appropriate decisions about their coverage,” emphasized Román, who represents Senior Benefit Services.
