Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman secured his re-election with 54.39 percent of the votes. This victory signifies that after four years, Coffman managed to increase his support. In the 2019 elections, which had five candidates, the current mayor garnered 35 percent of the votes. Four years ago, after a recount, Coffman won against his opponent Omar Montgomery by just 214 votes.
In 2023, Coffman obtained over nine thousand votes more than Juan Marcano, his closest contender. Marcano, council member for Aurora’s District IV, secured 38.59 percent of the votes. Meanwhile, the third aspirant, Jeffrey Stanford, a retired military, obtained 7 percent of the votes. The election results increase Mayor Coffman’s majority in the city council.
With 7 out of 11 votes
District IV, vacated by Marcano, was won by Stephanie Hancock. Marcano supported Jon Gray, who was defeated by Hancock. The new council member becomes the seventh vote in alignment with Mayor Coffman. The current council member for District V, Alison Coombs, won her bid to be an “at-large” council member. Coombs votes with the minority in the council. Meanwhile, Angela Lawson, without affiliation, leaves her “at-large” position to be the council member for District V.
