Boulder County Health Coverage Specialists are once again at the service of county residents to help them find a health plan that meets their needs. This is an important service because the registration period for health insurance expires on December 15 for those who want coverage by January 1, 2022. Additionally, those who register by January 15 will have coverage starting February 1, 2022.
“When our community is healthy, everyone benefits. Affordable health insurance options have never been more available, so we hope we can encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity. And we have highly qualified guides, including Spanish speakers, to help people choose their options,” Dale Whyte, Program Manager, Boulder County Housing & Human Services.
Health Insurance Benefits
Having health insurance is crucial today. During the pandemic, adequate health coverage can help individuals and families prevent the spread of COVID-19 or overcome the after-effects that the virus leaves behind. Access to adequate health insurance also allows families to have access to preventive care and medications. Many people who relied on employer-provided health coverage now need alternatives due to a possible reduction in income or loss of job.
Most Coloradans qualify for affordable health insurance through Connect for Health Colorado programs. Many low-income people qualify for financial assistance, however, many of them are not currently enrolled in health coverage. On the other hand, Boulder County residents already enrolled in coverage through marketplace may not be receiving tax credits even though they qualify for this assistance.
