Michael Bennet, Senator from Colorado, is seeking reelection for his third term. “I worked for many years to drastically expand the child tax credit. And what that did for a year was reduce child poverty in the United States by almost half. That benefit was received by 90 percent of Colorado families. Families in the state received an average of $450 a month to pay for their necessities,” Bennett said. Bennet: “We seek the biggest tax cut for workers”

The Democratic senator wants this benefit to be permanent. At the same time, Bennett indicated that he is continuing his work with Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown to pass the Earned Income Tax Credit. Bennett explained that “those two bills alone would give American workers the biggest tax cut they’ve had for generations.”

Fighting against inflation

Bennet responded to the accusations of Senator Rick Scott, who accuses Joe Biden of creating inflation. According to Bennet, “this inflation has nothing to do with Biden’s management of the government. It is more about the problems with supply chains around the world. As the economy grew and began to recover from COVID, there was a shortage of all kinds of products, which pushed up prices, including fuel.”

The Senator from Colorado continues his argument. “Just 18 months ago, or maybe two years ago, oil was $20 a barrel. Today the price of a barrel of oil exceeds 100 dollars. A lot of that has to do with the economic recovery. Coupled with these problems of shortages and rising prices of products and fuel, we also have the impact of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” he said.

Warrior for Immigration Reform

Bennet promotes the approval of legislation on the immigration issue. “I have not given up to this day. I work with Mike Crapo, Republican Senator from Idaho, to try to address the issues facing farmworkers and growers. We seek to secure the workforce we need to reduce food prices. We must allow people to work here and be able to come and go from their countries of origin, ”he assured.

This senator remembers that he has worked on immigration since the day he entered the Senate. Bennett says that “I was part of the committee of eight senators that wrote the immigration bill in 2013 that was supported by Democrats and Republicans. We passed that bill with 68 votes in the Senate. The Tea Party and the Freedom Caucus did not allow the Speaker of the House of Representatives to bring it to a vote.”

Mention to Joe O’Dea

Bennet makes a final reflection. “That bill had a path to citizenship for the 11 million people here who are undocumented. I still think that bill should be the law of the land and we should pass a similar bill. Unfortunately, Republicans like Joe O’Dea, his current contender republic, have stood in the way of us not being able to pass immigration reform.
