THE WOMEN’S SUMMIT ANNUAL PROGRAM COMES TO EMPOWER

The Women’s Summit of the Compañeras program began in 2007 in response to the need for women to grow in community and will now be hosting their 16ths conference to celebrate community resilience and the strengthening of the comprehensive well-being of women in favor of social justice. This will be an unforgettable opportunity for women to cultivate in community and discuss topics about identity, balance, and connection giving birth to a new plant.

The director of the event, Marinela Maneiro-Goodwin, expressed her excitement for this upcoming event after it being online for the past two years. “Seeing all these women together, all speaking our own language, speaking Spanish, I think that is the most beautiful part, this year more than ever the possibility of doing it in person is what has me most excited right now,” said Maneiro-Goodwin.

The Empowerment of Women

The program is really a place for women to meet and share their concerns, their time, and explore everything that helps improve the overall health of women. Women’s empowerment can be defined as promoting women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.

“What we have done with this summit is to provide a space where women have a voice, especially immigrant Latin women, and know that they are seen, that they are appreciated,” says Maneiro-Goodwin when asked what’s the importance of empowering women. Through the encouragement of women, so many amazing things can be made and accomplished with the support given to them in the views of the public.

Since the program is taking place at a university, it is a perfect opportunity to rally up young women to join the event and take part in such a beautiful movement of community and encouragement.

Women Supporting Women

People tend to really underestimate the power of women organizations and support groups and the positive effects it has in our world today. Women’s groups allow women to connect with mentors who have accomplished certain milestones and are willing to help other women accomplish their specific goals by offering their experience, connections, and support.

“I think this is a time to take risks, discover new things, new spaces, reinvent yourself, I invite you to go, give yourself an opportunity to be in this space with so many Latin women,” says Maneiro-Goodwin about coming as a community to express yourself at this beautiful event.
