Rarámuri runner Lorena Ramírez, along with her family, is getting ready to participate in the second Ultra Marathon in Colorado. Three generations of the Ramírez family come together to run in the LUNA (Latino Ultra Nature Adventure) at the Golden Gate Canyon State Park this coming Saturday, June first.

The arrival of Ramírez and her family to Colorado to participate in the LUNA is a testament to the commitment of the Rarámuri community to running and nature. Along with her parents, siblings, and a niece, Lorena is ready to showcase the discipline and resilience that characterize the runners of the Tarahumara mountains.

In addition to participating in the race, Lorena Ramírez will take the opportunity to promote the activities of her foundation, which benefit the inhabitants of the Tarahumara mountains in northern Mexico. “Her presence at the event highlights the importance of the connection between sports, conservation, and community commitment,” said Irene Vilar, organizer of LUNA.

Health benefits of nature contact

Vilar, founding director of Americas For Conservation and the Arts (AFCA), emphasizes that LUNA is more than just a race. “This is an opportunity to connect communities with the health benefits offered by nature and the arts,” said Vilar, who also highlights the achievements of the first edition of LUNA in Boulder last August.

“Many people discovered that they don’t need to be professional athletes to participate. What’s important is to experience this healing experience of connecting with nature. LUNA aims to close the inclusion gaps in the outdoor recreation and sports space,” Vilar states.

Those interested in participating in LUNA can register on the AFCA website. The event offers race options including four categories: 5 km, 10 km, Half Marathon (13.1 miles), and 55 km (34 miles). There are also opportunities to volunteer and contribute to the success of the event.
