A study released by the Metro Denver Homeless Initiative (MDHI) indicates that the number of homeless individuals in the Denver metropolitan area has reached 9,000. This figure is 31 percent higher than the one recorded in 2022. Meanwhile, the current number of homeless is 50 percent higher than the figure found in 2020.

Out of the total count, Latinos represent 25 percent, compared to the 22 percent of the Hispanic population in Colorado. Additionally, 35 percent of the 1,200 families without shelter in the seven counties of Metro Denver have Hispanic origin. This percentage rises to 45 percent among Hispanics under 18 years old without fixed housing.

Evictions are on the rise

“We are starting to feel all the economic consequences of the COVID-19 era,” said Jamie Rife, Executive Director of MDHI. Pandemic aid funds for homeless prevention have come to an end, along with many other protections, leading to a “sharp increase” in eviction requests, she explained.

“This, coupled with inflation and the rising cost of housing, is causing many people to become homeless,” she added. The report indicates that in the case of Hispanics, the incomes of these families are “significantly lower” than those of other groups. This “racial disparity” makes it difficult to rent or buy a home.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.
