Denver is a passionate city when it comes to sports, especially in American football. The three-time Super Bowl champions, the Denver Broncos, aim to change the landscape that has been negative since the franchise’s last title in Super Bowl 50. They have endured seven consecutive losing seasons, had three head coaches, suffered sixty-two losses, and gone through ten starting quarterbacks during one of the darkest periods in franchise history.

The year 2024 looks promising with Sean Payton as the new head coach. Payton becomes the twentieth head coach in the franchise’s history. With a winning history with the New Orleans Saints, with whom he secured a Super Bowl title in 2009 against the Indianapolis Colts, an old acquaintance of the Denver fans, Peyton Manning. The 59-year-old San Mateo, California native led the Saints to nine postseason appearances with a total record of one hundred fifty-two wins and eighty-nine losses.

A Leader as Quarterback

Russell Wilson fell short after a disastrous 2022. Wilson, who arrived last season from the Seattle Seahawks, seeks to establish himself as the quarterback everyone expects. He aims to carry the team on his shoulders and be a leader on and off the field. In terms of statistics, Wilson had one of his worst campaigns as a professional, recording 16 touchdown passes, a completion percentage of 60.5, and a passer rating of 84.4. These three numbers are the worst of his career in those departments.

The Broncos have endured seven consecutive seasons without reaching the postseason. In those same seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs have claimed the division title. The Denver Broncos have been unable to beat them. According to USA Today’s predictions before the start of the season, the Broncos are placed as the second team in their division with a record of 10-7. However, it may not be enough for Denver to make the playoffs. The question now is whether they can secure any other victories to help them sneak into the postseason.

Facing the Archrival

The Denver Broncos will debut this coming Sunday, September 10th, in a game at 2:25 pm at the revamped Empower Field at Mile High. Their opponent will be their archrival, the Las Vegas Raiders. Analysts predict that the Broncos are projected to finish at the bottom of the American Conference West with a record of 3-14. In theory, the first game looks like an accessible encounter. However, the most important thing is to start on the right foot and beat your most hated rival, no matter what.
