Gabe Evans, Republican candidate for Congress from Colorado’s 8th District, presents himself as a strong advocate for the safety and well-being of families. With a background that includes 12 years in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot, and a decade in law enforcement, Evans emphasizes his deep commitment to his community and country.
“I’ve seen the devastating effects of policies that have weakened our security,” Evans comments, referring to laws that, in his view, have made it easier for drug traffickers to operate and have endangered Colorado’s youth. Evans also describes himself as a concerned father, married for 15 years with two children. “It frightens me to think we live in the second state with the highest rate of overdose deaths among teenagers,” he states.

A Republican in His Own Way
This fear motivates him to work toward a better and safer future for his children and all the youth in his district. Evans defines himself as a “Gabe Evans Republican.” While he acknowledges influences from figures such as Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, he emphasizes that his approach is personal and based on his direct experiences. “Reagan spoke about freedom and the need to fight for it in every generation,” he says.
From Trump, Evans values his straightforwardness in addressing issues like border security and the economy. “I appreciate Trump’s ability to speak bluntly and directly confront cartels and criminals, as well as his focus on making the economy more affordable for Americans,” he asserts. On the other hand, Evans says he admires Mitt Romney’s ability to work in a bipartisan manner, “I’ve implemented that in my legislative career.”

Evans, who has already served as a state representative, highlights his ability to work in a bipartisan way, even in a legislature dominated by Democrats. “I’ve managed to get 60% of my bills passed, despite being in a super minority,” he notes. He is particularly proud of a law that strengthens school safety by severely penalizing false shooting threats that traumatize students and staff.
A Question for His Opponent
When discussing his opponent, Yadira Caraveo, Evans does not hesitate to question her consistency. “I would ask her where she truly stands, because she changes positions constantly,” he states. According to Evans, Caraveo has supported laws that, in his view, have weakened the fight against drug trafficking and crime in Colorado. “She supported reducing penalties related to fentanyl trafficking,” he claims.

Topics of Interest
Would you vote yes or no on mass deportations if the federal government decided to deport all individuals without immigration status?
Gabe Evans: Deportations should focus on individuals who are in the country illegally and commit serious crimes, such as drug traffickers, car thieves, cartel members, and terrorist sympathizers. The priority is to protect communities by targeting those who pose a real threat.
Would you vote yes or no to restrict abortion nationwide?
Gabe Evans: I am pro-life. I believe the Supreme Court was very clear when it made its decision a couple of years ago. They said this is an issue for the states to decide. So in Congress, I would not support a national abortion ban. I think it’s important to have exceptions.
I was a police officer. I worked with rape victims, with victims of incest. My youngest child was born and spent nearly a month in the hospital due to medical issues. I know we need to have exceptions for the life of the mother, the life of the child. So I do not support a national abortion ban.
