Michael, or “Mike” Mcintosh, was sheriff of Adams County from 2015-2019 and is now running for the position once again. Besides those four years as sheriff, McIntosh has worked in law enforcement for 34 years. McIntosh believes that his prior experience as sheriff will be beneficial to the community. McIntosh expressed his confidence about being able to go in and get started on the first day. “I don’t need to learn how to be sheriff,” he explained, because he’s already formed relationships with police chiefs, mayors, community groups and others. McIntosh believes that being able to get going right away is important because “time is of the essence.”

Embracing diversity

McIntosh acknowledges how diverse Adams County is and said that is an aspect he loves about the county. McIntosh also believes that it is crucial to have someone in the sheriff’s position “that wants to embrace the cultural differences in our community.” He said because every community has different issues, the sheriff has to want to work hand-in-hand with the people of each community. McIntosh explained that in order to do this it’s important that he “pair the right people in those communities that want to help solve what’s going on in those communities.”

New perspective

During his time away from sheriff and law enforcement, McIntosh believes that he was able to gain a valuable perspective. He quoted an old saying that goes like: “sometimes you can’t see the forest through all the trees.” McIntosh shared that since his chance to take an outside perspective of the sheriff’s office, he’s had a chance to take note of things that he would do differently, or even just things he would focus on more, or emphasize less– if given the opportunity to be the Adams County sheriff again.
