The Aurora Police Department has established a special task force to investigate the suspected connections of the Venezuelan criminal organization, Tren de Aragua, within the city. This team, consisting of four detectives, is working in collaboration with the RAVEN Task Force and other local, state, and federal agencies to address violent crime impacting the migrant community in Aurora.

The announcement was made during a public safety council meeting, where Acting Deputy Chief Chris Juul explained that the team is assessing who the members of this gang are, what activities they are involved in, and how many of them may be operating in the city. The creation of this special task force in Aurora responds to the need for coordinated action to identify and neutralize the activities of Tren de Aragua in the region.

The Tren de Aragua, which began as a prison gang in Venezuela, has expanded its influence across the Western Hemisphere. Last month, the Biden administration designated this gang as a transnational criminal organization, accusing it of being involved in human trafficking, gender-based violence, money laundering, and illicit drug trafficking. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is working with police forces to combat the threats posed by this criminal organization.

Report Crimes

Anyone with information about Tren de Aragua activities or other criminal organizations can submit an anonymous report by calling 877-4-HSI-TIP.
