The non-profit organization “Friends of Mexico” is carrying out a fundraising campaign for the family of a young man who died of a fentanyl overdose. Jose Hernandez, 13, who had just started eighth grade at Aurora Hills High School, died Aug. 10 from what is believed to be an accidental fentanyl overdose.
Margarita Hernández, José’s grandmother, found him lifeless in the bathroom of her residence. Margarita says that she was unconscious in front of the sink. The grandmother maintains that José took a pill without knowing that it contained fentanyl. Margarita believes that the young man got the pill from a fellow student, but she is not sure how it got into his hands.
Helping the family
“We ask for help from the Mexican and Hispanic American community. The boy who was the son of Mexicans was living in Colorado with his grandmother. His mother had been deported to Mexico. We are raising funds so that the young man’s grandmother can pay the deceased’s funeral and repatriation costs,” said Bianca Garcia, director of “Friends of Mexico.”
Likewise, the young man’s grandmother, Margarita Hernández, created a GoFundMe to cover expenses related to the death of her grandson. “We are devastated by José’s passing and struggling to find the funds for the funeral service. Every dollar helps. We are very grateful for every donation during this difficult time,” said Margarita.
