The XIII Americas Latino Eco Festival (ALEF) has been an extensive celebration spanning six months, starting with the first Ultra Marathon, LUNA, in Boulder County on October 22, 2023. This festival, led by Irene Vilar, executive director of Americas For Conservation and the Arts (AFCA), has been a comprehensive platform to promote greater integration, connectivity, and inclusion in the realm of healthy cities, conservation, public health, environmental justice, and tree equity.

ALEF has featured a diverse program that included tree plantings, community workshops on tree planting, Christmas tree cutting, and forest bathing adventures. On its final day, April 22, the event will culminate with a unique performance by Cuban artist Yaite Ramos Rodríguez, known as La Dame Blanche. This Cuban singer, flutist, and percussionist has captivated the world with her unique blend of hip-hop, female empowerment, dancehall, and catchy rhythms.

Symbol of diversity and strength

The XIII ALEF has been an enriching experience that has brought together leaders and activists committed to environmental conservation and the promotion of tree equity. “The thirteenth edition of ALEF has allowed us to reflect on the importance of nature and culture in our lives. The presence of La Dame Blanche at the close of the festival is a symbol of the diversity and strength of women in music and in the world,” concluded Vilar.
