The recent session of the Aurora City Council left a lasting impression on me, and not precisely for positive reasons. After more than four hours witnessing the debate, I can’t help but feel that decisions are being made based on instinct and emotions, rather than concrete data and serious analysis. The approval of the resolution demanding coordination for the arrival of migrants to our city was a clear example of this.

I eagerly awaited for the council members to back their arguments with solid evidence and verifiable data on the impact of migration in Aurora. However, instead, I found myself listening to speeches filled with emotions and unsupported anecdotes. The lack of solid foundations and the absence of a detailed analysis on the topic left me puzzled and worried about future decisions these council members may make affecting the Hispanic community.

Instead of presenting substantial reports and concrete figures, I witnessed them relying on rumors and anecdotal testimonies to support their positions. Councilwoman Jurinski, the main proponent of the resolution, displayed an irate and unprofessional attitude, which raised further doubts about the integrity and objectivity behind this decision. Jurinski pounded her desk with her fist several times.

It is regrettable to see such important decisions being made without sharing with the public the figures, data, and deep analysis. Transparency is lacking, and credible foundations are scarce, which should concern the citizens of Aurora. Instead of acting impulsively, these council members should focus on obtaining evidence and rigorous analysis to make their decisions.

I would hope that in future sessions of the City Council, the council members show that they take the necessary time to thoroughly research the topics under discussion and present arguments backed by verifiable data. Informed decision-making is essential for the progress and well-being of any community. Data is necessary. Pounding on the table is unnecessary.
