In 2007, Julia Fournier showed her great talent to the world when she performed Susana del Rio in “The Boarding School”. Then she did it with “La Patri” in the famous Spanish television series “Tell me How it Happened”. She keeps studying and gaining experience. Julia recently won an award for “Best Acting Ensemble” in the Indie Film Festival in Los Angeles. We talk with this actress in Denver, city where she currently resides and from where she brings her projects forward.

What does it mean for you to be an actress?
JF: Deciding to be an actress has been one of the best decisions of my life. When I was 10 years old, I started doing theatre and the first time I was on stage I felt a lot of things, very hard to describe and I decided I wanted to do that for the rest of my life. Being an actress means everything; “acting” is the love of my life.

What do you recommend to actors with the actual crisis?
JF: My best advice would be to be patience. An actor’s life is like that; you can be 3 months without working and suddenly work in a production for one week that gives you enough to survive the rest of the year. I would also tell them to use the time to keep training and creating. I love to create my own stories and produce them when I am not performing.

How do you manage to create very different characters as the gothic girl in the movie “Masala” and the sweet Sarah in “The Light Thief”?
JF: Well, my first performance on television was in “MASALA” directed by Salvador Calvo, and I performed the character “Bea”. I could create this character correctly thanks to my intuition. I knew she was angry at the world. In “The Light Thief” directed by Eva Daoud, I was more kind and sweet. At that point I was studying drama so I had intuition plus technic.

How was your experience working in the successful television series “The Boarding School”?
JF: I had the opportunity to work with several professionals in the field of the Performing Arts. It was very grateful to be part a of such amazing ensemble; between them, Yon Gonzalez, Ana de Armas, Blanca Suarez and Martiño Rivas, all of them are very talented. I also had so much fun. It was a big adventure.

Who has been your favourite character?
The character that I enjoyed the most was in “Tell me How it Happened” as “La Patri”; La Patri is a character that shows the spirit of the 80’s in Spain. After the dictator Francisco Franco’s death, everybody was done with all the censure and repression. I also loved being able to sing on stage, I had so much fun with the team of actors.

How has your professional experience in Colorado been?
JF: The film and theatre community in Colorado has received me with open arms. I had the opportunity to collaborate with several film productions and local theatre companies, which are all amazing and very important in Colorado. I have been able to share screen work with amazing American actors, and learn from American directors of this country.

What are your plans?
JF: The film and theatre community is rising in Colorado, we are very close to New Mexico, where Netflix just created a platform. Things are going to happen, I hope after the Coronavirus pandemic, everything will start to move faster.
