Salvador Lizárraga’s Original Banda El Limón comes to Denver to perform at the first Playero Fest at Civic Center Park. This presentation will be very special because it will allow the celebration of the 57th anniversary of this Sinaloa-style band that comes to perform rancheras, corridos, cumbias, ballads, tickets and sones. The group accumulates a dozen Grammy awards in recognition of more than 40 albums and hundreds of songs that have achieved great popularity.
This free presentation of the band will have a very special meaning. The Original Banda El Limón will be in charge of closing a whole day full of surprises and lots of fun. At the Playero Fest, Julio César Chávez, world boxing legend, will also be paying tribute. This Mexican champion was undefeated for 13 years. He had 86 knockout wins and another 107 wins by judges’ decision. Chávez will share the whole day with those attending the event.
Guinness record-breaking shrimp cocktail
Another important component of Sunday, August 7, is the preparation of a gigantic shrimp cocktail. Francisco Cuevas, owner of El Coco Pirata, together with the group of restaurateurs who organize this event, has the objective of obtaining the certification for preparing a shrimp cocktail that weighs about 3,306 pounds, or 1,500 kilograms.
Currently the Guinness record in this area is held by the city of Cartagena, Colombia. The Colombians managed to prepare a cocktail of 2,910 pounds. We have prepared ourselves to overcome them,” said Cuevas. This Sinaloan restaurateur and his team have taken this mission seriously. They have followed the Guinness instructions step by step in order to achieve certification.
Beach volleyball
Since this will be a day of music and beach, the section to play beach volleyball cannot be left out. Some 30 tons of beach sand will be poured onto the lawn of Civic Center Park. On that sand it will be possible to play volleyball using the nets that will be installed. And as good news, two special areas will also be created so that people can play soccer.
“We are creating a pioneering event that will allow healthy fun. We hope that Hispanic, non-Hispanic and Anglo families will come to Civic Center Park. They will have fun and they will also get the best of Latin American cuisine. And since it’s a beach day, we’re going to show off offering seafood and many other delicacies,” concluded Cuevas.
