Starting July 15, the federal government of the United States will distribute up to $300 per month for each child. This tax credit will help some 39 million households to reduce the impact of the pandemic. This measure is part of the economic relief package enacted in February by President Biden, and “provides fiscal relief to working middle-class families with children in distress,” the White House noted.

Eligible families will receive a payment of up to $300 a month for each child under the age of 6 and up to $250 a month for each child 6 years and older. These families will receive monthly payments from the CTC through direct deposit, paper checks, or debit card. The IRS and the Treasury Department are committed to direct deposit to ensure fast and secure delivery. Payments will be made between July and December 2021.

To qualify for this benefit, children must be siblings, stepchildren, adopted children, half-siblings, or descendants such as the grandchild, nephew, or cousin of the incumbent adult in the household. This child tax credit is only in effect for this year; however, the Biden administration has requested that this benefit be extended through 2025. This proposal has not yet received support from Republican congressmen.

Dependents Over 18 Years of Age

The Biden Administration’s assistance plan also includes a credit of $500 for dependent children over 18 years of age, which was excluded from the previous stimulus program. “Approximately 90 percent of families with children will obtain this new tax relief. This benefit also includes dependent children because the pandemic has had a general negative impact,” the White House’s statement concluded.
