The US Department of Education wants millions of students to receive a discount on their monthly broadband Internet service. This is the purpose of the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB) administered by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Children who participate in the School Breakfast Program (SBP) or Free or Reduced Price Lunch (NSLP) can be EBB beneficiaries. Also included are children who attend a school that participates in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Community Engagement Provision (CEP) between 2019 and 2021.
Up to $ 100 off
The program offers a monthly discount of up to $ 50 per month on broadband service and access equipment. Each household can receive a discount of up to $ 100 to purchase an Internet connection device, such as a computer or tablet, from a participating broadband provider. The household must contribute 50 dollars for the acquisition of the device.
Families of K-12 students can apply for the discount online or by mail. But, at the same time, applicants can find an internet service provider that participates in the program. Requests can be made through these providers, companies that can also facilitate access to electronic devices.
