Democratic Congressman for Colorado’s 6th District Jason Crow hit out at the handling of information regarding the private detention center operated by GEO Group and ICE. Crow confirmed that authorities moved or deported the individual detected with an active case of tuberculosis at the facility. However, the lawmaker is demanding transparency and denouncing the actions of both the private company and the federal agency.

“GEO and ICE continue to block both state and county health authorities, not allowing them access to the facility, which, frankly, is an abomination,” Crow stated. The representative argues that the private facility operates under active contracts and remains under the direct jurisdiction of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and local authorities.

“Denying entry to inspectors during suspected outbreaks of contagious diseases constitutes a clear violation of local regulations and state law,” Crow noted. The Democratic representative emphasized that local prosecutors and those from the 17th Judicial District possess the necessary legal tools to file lawsuits or issue public health orders against the facility’s administrators.

Request to Ban Private Prisons

The lawmaker contends that the lack of transparency demonstrates why private corporations should not profit from the incarceration of human beings. “All of this illustrates once again, seven years into this oversight project, why private companies like GEO and others should not be in the business of incarcerating human beings. We should ban and get rid of once and for all the for-profit private incarceration and prison industry,” the congressman pointed out.

Regarding congressional inspections, Crow noted that his team has conducted more than 80 oversight visits over the last seven years. The congressman maintains an active lawsuit against federal authorities after courts issued two restraining orders to guarantee access for his staff. Despite the court rulings, ICE centralized responses in Washington to stall the delivery of information at the local level.

Criticism of Foreign Policy and the Future of Defense

Regarding the international stage, Crow criticized the official stance toward Ukraine, pointing out that weakening alliances or halting aid is counterproductive for the nation. “Ensuring that Ukraine can fight and win its independence, its sovereignty, and its security is good for our national security. It’s good for the security and prosperity of Europe, which is our number one trading partner as a country,” the lawmaker maintained. Crow further emphasized the strategic difference between this conflict and others.

“What’s incredible about Ukraine is no American boots on the ground, no American bloodshed; all they need is a little bit of support, a little bit of help, some intelligence support, and they’re doing the fighting on their own”. Likewise, the congressman described Ukraine’s technological deployment and bravery as a cornerstone for global military transformation. “The incredible courage, bravery, resiliency, and innovation of the Ukrainian people are showing us the future of defense,” Crow stated.

The representative connected this reality directly to Colorado by highlighting his district’s industrial profile. “We are a defense, aviation, and aerospace industry community. About 3,000 people in this district work in those sectors, and the future of defense is what we’re seeing in the Ukrainian battlefield. I’m keen to learn those lessons and import them here so that we can actually be a part of that future,” the congressman concluded.

A Deceptive Bill

Finally, the congressman flatly rejected the bill promoted by House Republicans regarding stock trading among lawmakers. “Let’s pretend that we’re passing a bill to ban stock trading without actually banning stock trading. It doesn’t actually ban stock trading, so it’s a bullshit bill,” Crow warned when criticizing legislative maneuvers in Washington.

Support for Local Employment in Aurora

Representative Crow attended the well-attended job fair organized by his 6th District congressional office. The event, held at The Stampede in Aurora, brought together four dozen employers from various strategic sectors and attracted several thousand attendees looking for new job opportunities to strengthen their families’ finances. Crow toured the venue and spoke directly with job seekers and recruiters to learn firsthand about the local job market’s needs and reaffirm his commitment to the community’s economic development.
