The Commerce City Chamber of Commerce and Commerce City’s Economic Development Division are collaborating on a new shop local program to provide small businesses additional support through an e-commerce marketplace called Shop Where I Live!

Independent businesses and restaurants that sell “unique” local products and services to consumers can widen their online reach and increase product, service and gift card sales through this program. Similar to other online marketplaces, businesses have their own shop on the website with a login to manage their shop, products, respond to inquiries, and fulfill orders. The website will be promoted through the city and chamber social media channels and websites. Even if a business already has an online presence, this program can still enhance customer reach.

“We must band together as a community, now virtually, to help our local businesses stay operational during this trying time,” said Rene’ Bullock, Commerce City Chamber of Commerce Director. “Providing this platform free of charge to businesses and Chamber members is one way we are helping businesses during the pandemic.”

Through the Shop Where I Live marketplace, customers can easily buy from multiple businesses online, with options to choose local pick up, delivery, and shipping (as available by each vendor).  Participation is free, but businesses need to be physically located in Commerce City, have or apply for a Commerce City business license (apply here), and sell a unique product or service done locally. Restaurants are encouraged to add gift certificate opportunities or offer take-home items for purchase, such as a salsa. Home-based businesses can also apply to participate.

“With all of the changes that are happening with the pandemic and online commerce becoming essential to retail survival, we have recognized how important e-commerce readiness is for our community,” said Michelle Claymore, Economic Development Director. “We hope that local businesses take advantage of this opportunity right away and set-up a virtual shop so that we can start promoting this resource to the community.“

This is the first Shop Where I Live branded virtual marketplace in Colorado.  Click here to visit a similar marketplace in Marion, Iowa that is also using this platform. Businesses can email [email protected] if interested in participating or with any questions about the program.
