Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) canceled Adelante Community Development (ACD) COVID-19 equity vaccine clinic scheduled for Saturday, December 4. The cancelation was due to lack of staff. ACD received cancelation by email one hour before the clinic started.
ACD had an approved vaccine clinic at Mile High Flea Market containing 400 vaccines, including 150 vaccines for kids. “Although the clinic was carefully planned and coordinated ahead of time, ADC was notified by CDPHE on the same day of the event, and the clinic had to be canceled because they did not have enough staff to manage it,” said Maria Gonzalez, Founder and CEO of Adelante Community Development.
Gonzalez insists that the Latino community continues to be disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and is left behind in access to the vaccine. “We value and respect the great partnership with CDPHE as we help our Latino community get vaccinated, but we are devastated that we have to turn away so many people who made a significant effort to come get the vaccine,” said Gonzalez.
More than 12,000 Vaccinations
She continued, “We look forward to continuing this strong relationship. Together we will ensure that all Latinos get vaccinated, and that no cancelations ever happen again.” ADC is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing economic and educational opportunities for Latino families and entrepreneurs in Colorado.
ACD, in partnership with the CDPHE and other organizations, has done over 12,000 vaccinations in more than 40 equity vaccination clinics in Adams County. ACD has been on the frontlines providing vaccine information, education, and resources during the pandemic.
