Booster doses of COVID-19 messenger RNA vaccines work against omicron according to Anthony Fauci. This discovery provides conclusive evidence that the production of an additional vaccine is unnecessary. Fauci, the White House chief epidemiologist, was in charge of making this announcement.

“Booster doses of the vaccine work against omicron. A different booster is not necessary for this variant,” said Fauci. He also encouraged unvaccinated Americans to get immunized and those double vaccinated to receive the booster.

Effects of the Vaccine

Throughout his analysis, Fauci relied on a series of studies on omicron and data within and outside the US. In accordance with the information that has come from the United Kingdom, Fauci explained that the effectiveness of the first two doses of the vaccine decreases overtime against the omicron variant.

However, upon receiving the booster, the vaccine increases to 75 percent in effectiveness against omicron. “The omicron variant certainly reduces the effects of antibodies from double-dose vaccines and reduces overall protection,” he stressed.

Three Shots

However, he added, “The early in vitro and clinical studies…indicate that boosters reconstitute the antibody titers and enhance the vaccine protection against omicron.” Two messenger RNA vaccines that require two doses, Pfizer and Moderna, are approved in the US.

Another approved vaccine was developed from an adenovirus, that of Johnson & Johnson, which requires one dose. All three of these vaccines require the booster shot.
