Erik Aaadland is running to represent Colorado’s seventh congressional district. Aaadland expressed that his two biggest concerns are the issues of inflation and government, which as a result have been some of the factors which have caused the cost of living in Colorado to rise at rapid rates. Aadland shared that he believes we should be funding essential services such as Social Security, Medicare, and infrastructure. Additionally, he suggested that in the future “we need to pass a balanced budget amendment that forces Congress and our government to operate within its tax revenue.”
Compassionate immigration reform
When asked about his stance on immgration and more specifically DACA, Aadland said “I do think there needs to be compassionate immigration reform.” He continued by saying that “part of that is creating a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, those who have come to this country as children and grown up here and are essentially American citizens.” Although Aadland expressed his belief that there should be a pathway to citizenship, he also added that we need to address the “disaster at the border” and that “we can’t have an open border.”
Coming together
Aadland, who graduated from Westpoint Academy as an Army Officer and served time in the military, believes that we must all come together for the good of our country. Going off a quote from John F. Kennedy, Aadland expressed that we have to “find ways to put partisan politics aside and come up with the best answer for Colorado and her constituents.” He said that often partisan issues aren’t the right ones and that we need “restore dialogue” in order to solve the pressing issues of our day. In a closing message to the public, Aadland said “I’m going to listen to all my constituents, not just Republicans, but everybody in District seven, the independents, the Democrats, and do my best to represent the entirety of this district.”
