The Consulate General of Mexico in Denver is preparing to open a new headquarters in 2026, aiming to provide a more dignified and functional space for the Mexican community in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. The announcement was made by Consul General Pável Meléndez Cruz during the presentation of his third annual management report, in which he noted that after analyzing and visiting nearly 25 buildings, the consulate has already selected the property it plans to move into later this year.
“We hope to complete the relocation this year. The people of Mexico deserve a more dignified space. We measured, analyzed, and visited almost 25 buildings, and finally chose one, also considering that rent in Denver is very high,” explained the diplomat, who expressed confidence that, if plans proceed as expected, the new consulate will open its doors by the end of 2026.
Report Focused on the Mexican Community
The announcement was made during an event held at the Parr-Widener Hall of the Denver City Hall, attended by local authorities, community leaders, businesspeople, and members of the media. During the event, Meléndez Cruz presented a recognition to Denver Mayor Michael Johnston and outlined the main pillars of his consular management since assuming office in 2023.
In his remarks, the consul highlighted a 350 percent increase in document issuance and the provision of legal services, as part of a strategy aimed at expanding access for the migrant community to consular procedures and support. He also addressed accusations circulating against him, which he described as anonymous, fabricated, and part of a “dirty political war”.
Facilitating Remittances and Dual Nationality
Meléndez Cruz explained that since his arrival in Denver, he has promoted the daily broadcast of the “Mañanera del Pueblo” from the consulate facilities, along with the constant dissemination of information on services, resources, and social programs offered by the Mexican government. Additionally, the consulate implemented the so-called “Consular Mañanera,” a direct dialogue platform with consulate users.
Regarding results, he reported that the Consulate General of Mexico in Denver ranks second nationwide in the issuance and activation of the remittance card from the Financiera para el Bienestar. He also noted an increase in dual nationality procedures, with more than 2,000 new registrations in 2025 alone.
Weekly Visits to Aurora Migrant Center
The diplomat emphasized the work of the Consular Protection Department, particularly in assisting Mexican migrants detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the GEO Detention Center in Aurora, where consulate staff conduct weekly visits to provide consular and legal advice, in addition to referring cases to the Legal Assistance Program Abroad. In this context, he noted that the team of consulate lawyers has increased by 35 percent.
Meléndez Cruz also highlighted the bilateral relationship with the governments of Colorado and Wyoming, led by Governors Jared Polis and Mark Gordon, and recalled that since 2024, Mexico has been Colorado’s top trading partner, with an estimated trade volume of $2.8 billion.

Finally, he emphasized the environmental project “Saving the Critical Hibernation Habitat of the Migratory Monarch Butterfly in Central Mexico,” promoted by the consulate in collaboration with Colorado’s Butterfly Pavilion. The project includes an investment of over $53,000 for the reforestation of 100,000 oyamel trees and aims to strengthen both environmental conservation and local economic development.
