Attendees will enjoy traditional Guatemalan music, cuisine, and artistic expressions that celebrate Latin American culture and folklore.

Screening of the Documentary “Deportivo Xejuyup: More than a Club”

One of the event’s highlights will be the screening of the documentary “Deportivo Xejuyup: More than a Club,” a production directed by Macarena Boys. The film tells the story of a soccer team in Guatemala whose mission is to preserve Mayan culture through sport. The documentary, which has won awards at international film festivals, explores how the team, led by Antonio Perechú and his son Miguel, uses soccer as a means to keep the tradition of wearing ancestral costumes alive on the field.

The film also emphasizes the Perechú family’s concern about the waning interest in traditional Mayan attire among younger generations and how soccer has provided a way to continue honoring the cultural legacy of their ancestors.
