New Generation of Leaders Takes on Challenges

Jake Salazar and Brenda Aguilera represent a new generation of business leaders committed to the Hispanic community in Colorado. Salazar assumes the role as the new chairman of the board of the Colorado Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (CHCC), an organization with a long tradition and success in representing the Hispanic business community in Colorado. It is a guild organization with a 40-year history.

Meanwhile, Aguilera was sworn in as president of the board of the National Association of Hispanic Realtors in Denver (Nahrep-Denver). This Nahrep chapter was the pioneer and maintains leadership in integrating representatives from the entire real estate industry into its board. Nahrep membership is open to all real estate professionals.

The Challenges

Aguilar precisely considers that the main challenge of her tenure is related to membership. “I will focus on growing membership. I believe we will be able to advance because there is a board and a team very committed to achieving it. That clarity of purpose has to do with our idea of strengthening our organization to empower more Hispanics and thus become homeowners,” says Aguilera.

For Salazar, his main task as chairman of the CHCC board will be to increase the impact his organization has on the community. “I want to help expand CHCC’s digital presence. In this way, and using the technology we have at hand, we will increase the participation of current members and attract new entrepreneurs. The purpose is to consolidate the influence of CHCC,” explains Salazar.

Their Passions

This entrepreneur leads multiple business initiatives. He ventured into the restaurant and real estate areas. He propelled the cannabis industry in Colorado and the United States. “Currently, I am venturing into the area of market and digital business. I even have a podcast,” Salazar enthusiastically told us, who seems to have great interest in continuing to innovate with his business initiatives.

Aguilar shared her other activity, in addition to real estate, which occupies much of her time. “My passion is horseback riding. Since I was a teenager, I have been trained in the Mexican discipline of “charrería”. I am a “charra skirmisher”. And over time, I decided that it was part of my mission to transmit to the new generations the love and skills for that practice. That’s why I created the children’s team Adelitas de Colorado,” she said.
