The 48th Denver Film Festival, taking place from October 31 to November 9, 2025, will showcase an outstanding selection of 136 feature films, documentaries, and shorts from around the world. Among the highlights is “The Captive,” a historical drama that tells the story of a young soldier captured in Algeria who unknowingly begins his journey to becoming the renowned Miguel de Cervantes.

“Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” will open the festival, offering a contemporary twist on the Knives Out-style mystery. Also featured is “Calle Málaga,” starring Carmen Maura as a widow struggling to keep her home in Tangier against her daughter’s wishes. Meanwhile, Ralph Fiennes leads the cast of “The Choral,” set during World War I.

The festival will also premiere the documentary “Elway,” which chronicles the career of football legend John Elway—from his Stanford years to his time with the Denver Broncos. Each film offers a unique perspective on the art of cinema, ranging from historical dramas to modern thrillers, in a lineup designed to surprise and move audiences.
