Colorado will experience this Saturday, August 1, one of the most important celebrations in its history. The traditional Colorado Day will also mark the 150th anniversary of the state’s admission as the 38th state of the Union, a historical coincidence that joins the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of United States independence. It will be the only occasion in which Colorado celebrates both anniversaries at the same time.

The event will bring together civic, cultural, educational, and family activities in various cities, with an open invitation for residents and visitors to participate in a date that seeks to strengthen the sense of belonging and recognize the history that gave birth to the state. Activities will be concentrated throughout the weekend, although Saturday, August 1, will be the main day of the celebration.

Colorado celebrates its sesquicentennial with a major event

There will be official ceremonies, museums with free admission, children’s activities, cultural performances, and community events. The commemoration also invites reflection on the path traveled since the creation of the state in 1876, recognizing the legacy of Indigenous communities, early settlers, immigrants, and the generations that have contributed to the development of Colorado.

Organizers expect the participation of thousands of people in dozens of activities scheduled throughout Colorado.
