The upcoming visit of former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump to Aurora on Friday, October 11, will not incur costs that Trump’s campaign will need to cover. This information was provided by Ryan S. Luby, Deputy Director of the city’s Communications and Marketing Department, clarifying that Aurora does not have a policy requiring political campaigns to reimburse the city for costs incurred in connection with electoral campaign activities.
“The obligation of the city and the Aurora Police Department is to ensure a safe visit and mitigate risks, regardless of associated costs,” Luby stated. Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman will not be present at Trump’s rally. It is anticipated that City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky and Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, candidate for District 4, will be present at the Gaylord Resort to welcome the former president.
Coffman’s Message for Trump
Coffman, a member of the Republican Party, took the opportunity to clarify that concerns about the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua’s activity in Aurora have been “exaggerated” and do not pose a threat to the community. In a written statement, Coffman indicated: “Former President Trump’s visit to Aurora is an opportunity to show him and the nation that Aurora is a considerably safe city, not a city overrun by Venezuelan gangs”.
Coffman’s statements have been corroborated by Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain, who emphasized that although there is a limited presence of individuals linked to gangs, there is no evidence of a widespread threat in Aurora, and criminality is not related to the immigration status of those involved.
