On the night of Friday, September 20th, a man died after receiving multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting near the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Helena Street in Aurora’s District 1. Authorities received a report around 8:45 p.m. about a fight that preceded the shooting at a local business.
The man was immediately transported to a nearby hospital but passed away shortly after arriving due to the severity of his injuries. No arrests have been made so far, and no information about the suspect or the victim’s relationship has been released. Details of the incident remain undisclosed.
In Process of Closure for “Criminal Nuisance”
This tragic event occurred close to the Whispering Pines apartment complex, an area that has been under scrutiny due to high levels of criminal activity and deteriorating living conditions, including trash buildup and issues with water systems and other essential services.
These apartments, owned by CBZ, were abandoned by the company months ago and are now the subject of a closure process initiated by the city. Aurora’s new police chief, Todd Chamberlain, signed the closure order on the same day as the shooting, to tackle the increasing crime in the area.
Awaiting Investigation
Despite the proximity of Whispering Pines apartments to the shooting scene, authorities have not indicated any connection between this incident and the migrant community or gang activity. The investigation remains ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge soon.
