The Aurora Police Department (APD) has formally charged nine individuals accused of involvement in the violent kidnapping of two victims at The Edge of Lowry apartment complex, located in northwest Aurora, Colorado. The incident, which occurred on December 17, involved more than a dozen armed suspects who attacked the victims in an act of extreme violence and extortion.
According to police investigations, the victims were ambushed in the complex’s courtyard and taken to a vacant apartment, where they were tied up, threatened, and physically assaulted. During the kidnapping, the attackers stole jewelry, cell phones, and financial information, while also demanding the deletion of a video they considered compromising.
The video, recorded in November by one of the victims, showed a fight between two women linked to the criminal group. The suspects face charges including second-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, second-degree burglary, extortion, and threats. In addition, three more arrest warrants have been issued for individuals who remain at large.
Members of Tren de Aragua
Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain stated that the suspects are allegedly connected to Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan criminal organization. Authorities are also investigating a broader pattern of criminal activity at the apartment complex, including extorting residents by demanding additional payments on top of their regular rent.
As part of Operation Safe Haven, a special task force established to investigate crimes in migrant communities, authorities continue working to dismantle this criminal network. Meanwhile, the nine accused individuals are in custody and will face judicial proceedings in the Arapahoe District Court. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
