Governor Jared Polis appointed businesswoman María González to fill the vacancy left by Representative Manny Rutinel in the Colorado House of Representatives. González will temporarily assume the role for District 32 until January 11, when the new legislature is sworn in.

The businesswoman and community leader clarified that she is not running for the seat in the current election process, so her efforts will focus exclusively on completing the current term. González will take office in the coming hours and join the bicameral interim committee that guides the legislature during the recess period.

“This is an opportunity to represent the entire community of District 32, which has a large Hispanic population. But we are there to represent everyone, at a time when the local legislature must make major decisions related to the budget and other adjustments for the arrival of a new administration,” she stated.

Business Career and Community Commitment

González has a solid track record in Colorado’s business and institutional ecosystem. Fifteen years ago, she founded Adelante Community Development, an organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship, economic development, and community health. Her leadership has led her to serve on the boards of nearly twenty public and private organizations across the state.

Recognized for her moral integrity and steadfast support of Hispanic families, her arrival at the state legislature brings a voice with deep knowledge of the needs of small businesses and social services. Over the coming months, her tenure will bring stability to key budget debates in the state.
