El presidente Trump, anunció un nuevo acuerdo con nueve compañías farmacéuticas para reducir el precio de algunos medicamentos, como parte de su estrategia para equiparar los costos en el país con los precios más bajos que se pagan en otras naciones desarrolladas. Entre las empresas incluidas están Bristol Myers Squibb, Genentech, Boehringer Ingelheim, Sanofi, Novartis, Merck, Gilead, GSK y Amgen, con lo que ya suman 14 las farmacéuticas que han aceptado rebajas de precios con su Administración.
Según el anuncio, los medicamentos incluidos en estos acuerdos estarán disponibles a través del portal TrumpRx.gov, que será lanzado en enero y permitirá a los consumidores acceder directamente a las compañías, sin intermediación de las aseguradoras de salud. En julio, Trump envió cartas a 17 farmacéuticas exigiendo precios bajo el modelo de “nación más favorecida”. Otras empresas como Pfizer y Eli Lilly ya habían firmado para evitar sanciones regulatorias.
