The dance companies Fiesta Colorado and ArtístiCO join Mariachi Sol de Mi Tierra to celebrate the arrival of Christmas season. This great dance and music festival will take place in the June Swaner Gates Concert Hall at the University of Denver’s Newman Center. “We present this great show to kick off the Christmas season. Witness the presentation of talented local artists with an impressive track record who will deliver a true feast for the senses,” said Justin Levy, spokesman for the Newman Center.
The program that will be presented at the “Fiestas Navideñas” event includes traditional musical pieces and choreographies that identify Christmas in Hispanic culture. “Those who attend are going to take a tour of the Christmas celebrations in various regions of Mexico,” said José Rosales, founder, choreographer and dancer of the ArtístiCO. Rosales, who was part of the cast of Amalia Hernández’s mythical ballet, says that the show begins with a choreography dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe and then continues with other celebrations of the season. “For us, Christmas begins on December 12,” he said.
The Spanish influence will also be present at “Fiestas Navideñas”. “We are going to be able to enjoy the talent of Jeanette Trujillo-Lucero, director and choreographer of the Fiesta Colorado company. Jeanette is going to show us her flamenco prowess to show evidence of how Spanish traditions impacted our culture ”, said Rosales. Meanwhile, Rosales is going to present, as a soloist, “La Danza de El Venado”. “It is a tribute to the Yaquis, a native indigenous group from Sonora. The piece is performed to the rhythm of drums and voices and reflects the original traditions of our continent ”, said Rosales.
The Mariachi will be Present
Mariachi Sol de Mi Tierra will be at the event to perform for the audience in the spirit of Christmas. “Mariachi music is an essential component of the occasion, so what better way to enjoy it than with Juventino Romero and his mariachi, one of the best mariachi in the United States. I cannot reveal everything to you, but I can tell you that we are going to listen to Mariachi Sol de Mi Tierra interpreting songs for the Virgin of Guadalupe and the posadas. We will listen to those songs that connect us with Mexican and Hispanic culture and with the family spirit,” concluded Rosales.
