The Hispanic community in Colorado is about to enjoy a new gathering place: La Plaza Colorado. This covered, Hispanic-style shopping center opens its doors in the heart of Aurora, offering a unique experience for its visitors. With an area of over 90,000 square feet, La Plaza Colorado promises to be not only a simple shopping center but also a place where culture, gastronomy, and the Hispanic community converge.

Isabela McMurrain, one of the driving forces behind this project, emphasizes that La Plaza Colorado will not only offer space for businesses but will also serve as an incubator for Latino entrepreneurs. With 150 sales stalls ranging from electronics stores to tax services, La Plaza Colorado will provide small businesses with the opportunity to grow and thrive in a welcoming and collaborative environment.

Business Incubator

“We are a small business incubator. We offer very low entry fees and are committed to supporting the growth of our merchants,” explains McMurrain. La Plaza Colorado has already generated great interest among the Hispanic and Anglo-American business community. This executive revealed that there is a waiting list of over 170 people who want to establish their businesses in this market.

In addition to being a space for entrepreneurs, La Plaza Colorado will offer a wide variety of services and entertainment for the public. There will be around 24 restaurants offering food and beverage services. There will also be a children’s play area, an arcade game room, or “game machines,” and an adjacent supermarket. “This shopping center will be the perfect place to spend the day with family,” assures McMurrain.

Opening on March 28

The executive continues, “we want La Plaza Colorado to be a destination for the entire community. From families to young people and seniors, there will be something for everyone here.” With the opening of La Plaza Colorado, Aurora joins a growing list of cities in the United States that are betting on these types of community-centered commercial projects.

This model of shopping centers, which already exist in California, Illinois, Texas, New York, and Arizona, represent a space where culture and commerce intertwine. “We promote business opportunities, provide entertainment. At the same time, we help strengthen the sense of identity and belonging among Latino residents and promote Hispanic culture with the rest of the community,” explains McMurrain. The opening of La Plaza Colorado is scheduled for the coming weeks.
